I paint for myself and am driven by the will to become more accomplished. To this end I strive to make each painting, in some way, more difficult than the one before.
I would find no satisfaction in the pursuit of a formulaic style and enjoy the challenge presented by differing subjects'
My choice of subjects is based on enthusiasms I might wish to revisit and ultimately share through painting.
How I dislike the notion of the 'Artist's Statement'. So difficult to avoid the self-conscious and pretentious.
I take pleasure in adopting one from my erstwhile art-school colleague and Devon art-teacher John Upton.
